Poem: If Only She Knew + writing process/inspiration

 If Only She Knew

If only she knew that she’s gorgeous.

A limited edition design,

priceless and timeless.

She’s first class,

jaws dropped at her presence.

She’s funny,

beautiful laugh to match.

She’s amazing,

unforgettable.

She’s everything you could want,

straight from Wonderland.

If only she knew how much she’s worth.

How stunning her smile is,

as bright as the gleaming sun in the summer.

How smart she is,

not an ounce of intelligence left behind.

How loved she is,

even on her worst days.

How kind she is,

whether someone deserves her kindness or not.

How determined she is,

pouring her soul into every project.

How brave she is,

pushing through her fears.

How outstanding she is,

leaving an impression you’d always remember.

If only she knew what others notice.

Like her breathtaking deep brown eyes when they lock with mine,

or the way her curly, dark brown hair blows through the whistling wind.

When she puts a little extra effort into an outfit,

when she’s feeling down or up,

when she tries a new makeup look,

or when she's just herself.

If only she knew the way I see her.

She’s my savior,

there at my worst moments.

she’s my one and only,

irreplaceable.

She’s my best friend,

even after the end of time.

my writing process and inspiration

This poem is a really special one to me because it was written for my, at the time, best friend. Opening this blog with this poem felt right because it's one of the first poems that I wrote, and still one of my favorites. While writing, it was important to me to accurately capture what I saw in her. I spent a lot of time analyzing her and her mannerisms and appearance. Once I had a good idea of what I wanted to highlight and say, I started finding the words that rhymed and stringing it together. I think this poem is a beautiful showcase of her and a snapshot of the love I had for her at the time. I hope this poem can bring meaning to other best friends in the same way that it did for me.
